These relief tiles have undergone the magical Raku process. A firing process in which the glazed bisque is removed from the kiln at approximately 1850o F and dropped into a bucket of combustible material. By covering the bucket, the burning material robs the oxygen from the metal oxides in the glazes. This process is called reduction. The outcome is beautiful base metals, fine crackles blackened by carbon and surprising bursts of colour. It's magic !
