ORTON KilnVents
![]() |
Hazardous fumes and objectionable odours liberated from clay and glazes during firing are removed most efficiently with an Orton KilnVent. The downdraft system establishes a constant negative pressure in the firing chamber, thereby ensuring maximum fume removal. Other benefits are realized as well. The introduction of air from outside the kiln as fumes are withdrawn promotes the burnout of carbonaceous compounds which, otherwise, could lead to defects in clay bodies, glazes and lustres. An oxidizing atmosphere is also important in extending element life. And downdraft air movement helps to produce more uniform heating. Cost of operation is negligible - typically, less than a cent an hour. The stand version KilnVent pictured is the most common type used for top loading kilns. "Junior", "Suspended", "Floormount", "Kilnmount" and "Platemount" versions are available for special fitting requirements. |
